When Gilead Ministries first took on the challenge of the Fly/In Cruise/In Pancake Breakfast we were overwhelmed by the enormity of this endeavor. We had never attempted anything like this and we were sure that we'd have a learning curve.
This past week we were overwhelmed once again. This time by your generosity and support for our third year at the helm of this amazing event.
I wanted to share some of the success with you, we're thankful for the Grant County Rescue Mission for their partnership and picking up this legacy so it will carry on until the next generation.
Here's some idea of what this year's Pancake Breakfast looked like...
~Thirteen bags of batter (55 lbs each) for approximately 13-14,000 pancakes.
~Approximately 500 lbs of sausage cooked.
~For the caffeinated (some decaf) people who attended, 85 gallons of coffee were consumed.
~1,000 + cartons of Orange Juice.
~900 cartons of milk (chocolate and white)
~Gilead raised about $13,000 to help with our mission of "Sharing The Journey."
~2,314 people ate breakfast that morning
Add all of this together, mix in some amazing weather and you have a wonderful day for all who were a part of the 28th Annual Fly/In Cruise/In Pancake Breakfast.
Many who walked into the hanger to have breakfast were treated to historic airplanes. The WWII General Motors TBM Avenger Torpedo Bomber was enjoyed by all. It was on display and when it took off for it's fly over there was not one heart that was beating at its normal rate as it passed. The sounds and sights of this amazing flying machine were beyond words. This particular plane is part of the Lake Erie Warbirds, and is part of the Liberty Aviation Museum.
Many enjoyed taking a ride on the 1930 D-25 New Standard Biplane. It was a hair raising experience I am sure many will not soon forget.
One of the most heart warming portions of our day at the pancake breakfast was to see the many smiles on people's faces as they sat together enjoying their time and food. All of those who attended were treated to one of the best ever experiences at this year's event.
The most amazing part of the morning was the reality that no one had to stand in line for any length of time. The hard working volunteers served all 2,314 people a marvelous IHOP pancake breakfast with warm sausage with such precision and speed that everyone got their meals in record time.
There are not enough thank yous available in this little bit of type, but I can guarantee that Gilead Ministries is extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this tradition and humbled at the support from the community for our efforts.
Next year the pancake breakfast will be overseen by the Grant County Rescue Mission. Gilead Ministries director Bill Sparks will be working to pass on all the resources needed to help them succeed in keeping this legacy alive.
